    • Physical fundamentals, designations and units of measurement in vacuum technology
    • Oil-sealed mechanical vacuum pumps:
      -  Design, operating principle and use of of rotary vane pumps, accessories
    • Dry running vacuum pumps:
      -  Design, operating principle and use of of Roots pumps, scroll and screw pumps, accessories
    • Fundamentals of pressure measurements in the pressure range of 1000 to 10-3 mbar
    • Design and operating principle of the relevant vacuum gauges
    • Possible pump combinations, criteria for the correct selection and dimensioning of pump systems, calculation examples
    • Practical notes for leak detection
    • Discussion of questions and problems of the participants

    The seminar presents properties of pumps and systems by means of design examples and practical demonstration on the pump system.

    Previous knowledge: The participants should have attended a basic seminar or have already sufficient practical knowledge in vacuum systems.

      - Functional behavior of turbomolecular pumps, oil diffusion and cryogenic pumps
    • Pump-down times, end pressure
    • Prevention and repair of malfunctions
    • Discussion of questions and problems of the participants

    • Direct and in-direct measurement systems
    • Gas-type-independent and gas-type-dependent measurement principles, e.g. Piezo, capacitive, heat conduction, cold cathode, hot cathode ion gauges
    • Design and operating principle of the relevant vacuum measurement instrumentation
    • Possibilities of pressure regulation and control
    • Consideration of measurement errors
    • Discussion of questions and problems of the participants

    The seminar presents the characteristics, the advantages and disadvantages of different measurement principles as well as the consideration of measurement uncertainties by means of practical examples.
