How to change the oil and filter on a SOGEVAC SV65 B oil-sealed vacuum pump January, 2025
Oil and filter change on your oil sealed vacuum pump
Changing the oil and filter on your vacuum pump is a simple procedure and keeps your machine running smoothly. On this page we will guide you through how to perform an oil and filter replacement on your Leybold SOGEVAC SV65 B vacuum pump.
This tutorial should be used in combination with the pump instruction manual (300267596).
Why is vacuum pump maintenance important?
By changing the oil in your vacuum pump, you help to clean out it’s ‘arteries.’ It is important that the oil is pure and clean, so that it can support the high performance of your vacuum pump and protect it against damage.
Over time the vacuum oil gets contaminated with particles and moisture, which reduces its lubricating properties and can cause increased wear on the vacuum pump’s internal components. Simply by regularly changing the oil and filter, the harmful build-up in the system is removed, along with the risk of pump inefficiency and/or breakdown.
Before you begin service make sure to switch off the electrical power supply of the pump system before any interaction. This will give the pump time to cool to a safe handling temperature.

Part one: disassembly
- How to remove the oil and filter from a vacuum pump.
- First remove the oil filler plug using a 12mm Allen key.
- Place a tray with a minimum volume of 1.5L underneath the drain plug/valve.
- If your vacuum pump has a drain plug:
a. Remove the oil drain plug using a 12mm Allen key.
b. Drain the oil from the vacuum pump into the tray. - If your vacuum pump has a drain valve:

- Apply vacuum grease to the oil drain plug O-ring.
- Fit the oil drain plug back into plug, using a 12mm Allen key.
