Synthetic crystal production is the foundation of solar wafer production. High-purity materials, such as silicon and silicon carbide (SiC) are important in the solar industry, as they are used to produce wafers or substrates. While pure silicon is used as basis for the solar cell itself, SiC is used in power electronic inverters to deliver energy from the solar arrays to the electric grid and in heat exchangers in concentrating solar power (CSP) plants.
To produce the purest monocrystalline silicon-wafers, various processes are commonly employed, including the “zone floating process”, “Czochralski pulling” or “physical vapor transport”.
Leybold has long-standing expertise in this market, as Czochralski pullers were developed by a former Leybold sister company (Leybold Systems in Hanau). No matter which technique the customer uses, we have the perfect production-proven and specialized vacuum solution.
