Beer Bottle Filling
Leybold beer industry vacuum solutions improve production quality and offer cost savings.
Vacuum systems for efficient and sustainable beer filling
Beer is a popular worldwide beverage whose supply and demand have increased over time. The brewing process for producing exceptional beer is very specific and requires ideal conditions and ingredients in order to produce a high-quality beverage. While the brewing process may be complex, the bottling process is just as important for maintaining flavor and preservation during transportation and storage. Beer is a sensitive beverage, so the bottling process usually requires multiple evacuation steps, followed by CO2 flushing.
The use of vacuum is essential in order to achieve the lowest “Total Packaged Oxygen” (TPO). This allows beer to maintain its fresh taste for a longer period of time. Packaging takes place on large rotary fillers which operate at very high speeds of up to 80,000 bottles of beer per hour. Liquid ring vacuum pumps have been traditionally used, but their unreliable performance (e.g., cooling water temperature dependence), associated risk of cavitation (and downtimes) and high energy and water consumption render them ineffective for this type of application.
Dry pump systems offer improved TPO and minimized water consumption
For better bottling processes, dry vacuum technology is a more a dependable and sustainable choice which allows brewers to significantly improve their operating costs and ecological footprints.
Leybold’s DRYVAC vacuum pumps and newly-designed and dedicated Beer Bottling Vacuum Systems deliver efficient and long-lasting performance to increase productivity and cost-savings.
The main benefits for breweries include:
- Water Savings: Up to 80% less water consumption compared to LRPs. No contaminated sewage water.
- Sustainability: Up to 20% less energy consumption compared to LRPs.
- Efficiency: Infrequent downtimes and low maintenance.
- High Performance: Consistent and improved bottling process quality (lower TPO levels).
Beer Bottling System
Leybold's Beer Bottling Vacuum Systems offer a turnkey solution for breweries and a 1-to-1 replacement for conventional technologies such as liquid ring pumps (LRPs). Based on the DRYVAC dry screw vacuum pump, they’re highly effective in preventing beer foam and liquid ingress. Foam and liquid carry-over are prevented by a stainless-steel separator and self-draining vessel. The system runs automatically, includes an internal self-cleaning step at the end of the production or whenever it is necessary and provides the following benefits:
- Local installation inside the process area
- Stringent hygiene standards
- Suitable for daily wash-down and cleaning of the pump’s exterior
- Compression room cleaning via liquid flushing
- High vapor and liquid residue tolerances due to its dry screw design
- Easy maintenance and longer maintenance intervals
- Various system sizes are available, depending on bottling capacity.
