A steel degassing plant is a facility used in the production of high-quality steels, primarily focused on the removal of elements such as carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen from the molten steel by a process known as vacuum steel degassing.
Steel degassing processes can have very specific requirements depending on the facility design, metallurgy routes, and desired quality of the final product. Mechanical vacuum systems operate reliably at VD, VOD or RH degassers with high tonnage. The development of modern dry screw-type vacuum pumps increased the process capabilities of mechanical vacuum systems.

To further enhance durability, each system can be equipped with venting (flooding) valves and a purge-gas system to protect pump seal areas.
