VOD Process

During the initial decarburization step the vacuum system must be able to operate continuously in a rough pressure range of approximately 50-200 mbar is required, while simultaneously removing high gas flows of typically 5,000 m³/h to 20,000 m³/h.
The oxygen blowing phase also creates very high amounts of dust particles, next to this gas-flow peaks with high concentrations of unreacted oxygen are possible.
The decarburization step is always followed by a vacuum degassing (VD) step for which at process pressures around 0.67 mbar a typical suction speed demand between 50,000 m³/h to 250,000 m³/h is necessary.
