Oil-sealed vacuum pump oil and filter replacement

In this blog we will walk you through how to change the oil and filter on your SOGEVAC SV 40 B vacuum pump. Changing the oil on a vacuum pump is essential for maintaining its efficiency and longevity. This quick guide covers the step-by-step process, tools you'll need, and tips to ensure a smooth oil change. Regular maintenance not only keeps your pump running smoothly but also helps prevent costly repairs down the road.

We recommend using this tutorial alongside the instruction manual (300267596).

Why is vacuum pump maintenance important?

An oil change acts to clean out the arteries of your vacuum pump. Only pure, clean, and unworn oil will manage to keep up with all the vital roles to protect your asset and production against unforeseen interruption. If you do not replace the oil and filter in your vacuum pump on time, the oil can become contaminated with particles and moisture, reducing its lubricating properties, and causing increased wear on internal components. Changing the oil and the filter removes all harmful build-up from within the system and decreases majority of the risk at low cost.

  2. Next, apply vacuum grease to the filter.

  3. Lubricate the exhaust filter O-ring with vacuum grease and assemble it.

  4. Fit the exhaust filter back onto the vacuum pump. Tighten the bolts using a 6mm allen key and 23Nm of torque.

  5. Now apply oil to the oil filter.

  6. Fit the oil filter back onto the pump.

  7. Apply vacuum grease to the oil drain plug O-ring.

  8. Fit the oil drain plug back onto the pump using a 12mm allen key.
